Utility Expo 2021 Successful for RPUE

Ring Power had it’s largest presence yet at Utility Expo 2021. Utility Expo, the utility industry’s largest trade exhibition held in Louisville Kentucky biennially, took place September 28-30.

Our footprint on the show grew from 2500 square feet in 2019 to an impressive 14,500 square feet in 2021. For this year’s Utility Expo, Ring Power Utility Equipment wanted to showcase our breadth of product offerings and solutions for our customers.

The outdoor space was covered in Terralam matting from Sterling Solutions. Equipment from nearly all of Ring Power Utility Equipment’s manufacturer stable was present—Terex, Genie, Elliott, Vac-Con, Palfinger, Brooks Brothers, Skylift and National Crane. Additionally, Ring Power’s Air Compressor Group had an Atlas Copco unit on display, perfectly paired with the Ring Power tool trailer, fully stocked with lineman tools.

New this year was a heavier emphasis on our parts and service teams, with one of Ring Power’s most impressive service trucks on display as well. We held in-booth demonstrations of the new ItemAware asset tracking system from Aware Innovations during the expo as well.

Ring Power Utility Equipment also hosted a customer event at Churchill Downs the first day of Expo. The event featured an open bar, dinner, mock horse racing and a bourbon tasting. The event was attended by a long list of customers, and was co-sponsored by Sterling Solutions, Vac-Con, Prinoth, Tom Nehl and Dakota Bodies. Customer feedback from the event was overwhelmingly positive.

Attendance for the Expo was down compared to previous years, owing to various Covid protocols throughout the industry, however interest in Ring Power was high among some key customers according to Mike Beauregard, Utility Equipment General Manger.

“We felt like we got a very high level of engagement from the utility contractor space and municipalities,” Beauregard said. “We got some big interest from major industry players despite a lower than average IOU attendance.”

The next Utility Expo will be September 26-28, 2023 in Louisville, KY.

Ring Power Utility Partners

with Patriot Drilling Equipment

Ring Power Utility Equipment wants to be the trusted partner of choice with our customers, and in keeping with that goal, Ring Power strives to provide the best solutions for any challenge our customers face.

That’s why Ring Power Utility Equipment has partnered with Patriot Equipment to offer an improved lineup of drilling equipment, starting in 2022.

Scott McNeill of Patriot Equipment said this new venture aims to solve some common problems in the utility industry when it comes to drilling.

“We’re trying to solve two problems here,” McNeill said. “We want to make a machine that anyone can safely operate, and we want to actually improve operator performance.”

With labor shortages already a concern, many in the industry find it hard to train new and existing operators. Patriot Equipment has designed its equipment to be as easy as possible to operate with minimal training, even providing a video training library that stays with the machine to coach performance.

“We’ve engineered a safer and more productive drill that anyone can use,” McNeill said.

To help with that goal, Patriot drill rigs will be equipped with a patent pending software called DrillPro which automates many drill functions to guarantee efficiency and safety. DrillPro also assists operators with safe set up procedures, automates drill speed and crowd pressure, and comes with an auger load gauge to ensure that faster cycle times are actually more productive cycles.

Paired with Ring Power Utility Equipment’s expert sales team, service staff and parts inventory, the Patriot line of equipment will be a powerful equipment solution for our customers.

"We are very excited to be partnering with Patriot Equipment Solutions,” said Andrew Kurz, Ring Power Utility Equipment Vice President of Sales. “This new partnership allows Ring Power Utility Equipment to offer our customers the leading technology in the industry while creating a safer work environment on the job."

ItemAware Pilot Program

Successful for Concurrent

Video Placeholder

Ring Power Utility Equipment recently completed installation for a new pilot program of Aware Innovations exciting new asset tracking system, ItemAware.

ItemAware is a system that allows a fleet manager to keep track of which lineman tools belong with which truck in the fleet. This is accomplished by installing a wireless beacon device on the truck, setting the correct parameters, and mating the tools with the individual truck.

Removing a tool from the truck will show as a “thumbs down” on the app to indicate that the tool is not on the truck. Once the missing tool is replaced, the icon turns to a “thumbs up.”

Over 50 units in the Concurrent fleet had ItemAware beacons installed and the RFID chips applied to each tool associated with the trucks through the month of October and November.

The pilot program with Concurrent got its legs when Utility division parts manager Joel Ross spoke to Aware Innovations and quickly realized ItemAware was the only product on the market that did what they said it would do.

From there, tooling account manager Rich Montalvo got involved, flying Steve Sarno from Concurrent out to show him exactly how ItemAware works and how it could benefit his company. Close to two months later, the units were retrofitted for the ItemAware system and working.

“The future is when any customer buys a new truck, ItemAware may come as an upgraded option,” Rich said.

Rich said the pilot program has gone so well with Concurrent, they’ve offered to allow us to demo the product to other customers using their yard and equipment.

“The customer has been ecstatic,” Rich said. “They love it.”

Vocational Industry Poised for Continued Growth in 2022 and Beyond

The vocational side of our division is one of the fastest growing units and is predicted to continue to grow in 2022.

Greg Allegro, who is heading up the vocational industry expansion for Ring Power Utility Equipment, has been hard at work pushing existing equipment lines, such as Vac-Con and Palfinger, into new territories.

He has continued to grow Ring Power’s presence in the hydroexcavation market in particular, winning a hyrdoexcavator sales award from Vac-Con in 2021. Because of the success with he Vac-Con line, Ring Power’s Vac-Con inventory will grow by 4-5 times year over year.

Not only that, but Allegro is helping expand Ring Power’s presence in that market by hiring a team of vocational account managers. Royal Hendrix, who came over from Cox Marine, was the first to be added to this new team.

Allegro said they are looking to add a few more account reps in south Florida, Georgia, Texas, the Midwest and the Carolinas.

Perhaps more importantly, the vocational business is working on expanding it’s product line also. Allegro said there are plans to add products such as work trucks, flat beds and service trucks as well as new equipment manufacturers to Ring Power’s equipment portfolio.

Whiteboard Discussion

Submitted by Shawn Cardillo

"TM125 units - The lower access step on most all TM units is being torn off when working off road. Would like to see about changing that to a rubber mounted style like a motor grader or something similar where it would be flexible enough to absorb the impact of the off road environment without being torn off on each rental."
