Our Mission Statement
To provide innovative solutions at the highest standard through honest and professional relationships.
Looking forward...
Thank you.
We don’t say that enough these days. Sincerely, and with the humblest of heart, I thank each and every member of this TEAM. The effort put in and the obstacles overcome this year have been massive. We have all worked tirelessly as we have looked at opportunities to earn and grow in a retracting economy. Your efforts are recognized and appreciated.
It is with great pride that I can say we have shown ourselves and others that we are a business built on a rock-solid foundation. 2020 was our 12th year as a Terex Distributor operating in the electrical utility market. Up until this year, the business had increased top line revenue with double digit growth year over year. The question remained though― Are they lean enough and are their processes good enough to sustain a downturn? Well ladies and gentlemen, we can now answer that with an emphatic YES.
I’m reminded of a quote that often makes me reflect on challenge and adversity:
“Growth comes at the point of resistance. We learn by pushing ourselves and finding what really lies at the outer reaches of our abilities.”― Josh Waitzkin
The quote challenges us to look forward to resistance and engage ourselves to seek a means to overcome and grow. It’s through that struggle, we gain some of the most valuable knowledge and experience. This year has taught us all a lot. We will take that with us and grow from it.
2021 is going to bring us a lot of opportunity, and we will need to expand with the demands of the market. I look forward to taking on this challenge with the brightest team in the industry. I wish each of you and your families a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Looking forward to a great year ahead!

General Manager, Ring Power Utility Equipment
Ring Power Utility Equipment rolled out a new custom product for Florida Power and Light recently. The Genie Z-45 Substation Utility Boom was designed by Terex and Genie specifically for substation work.
“This has been a project that Terex, Genie, Ring Power and Florida Power & Light have been working on for quite some time now,” said South Florida account manager Bennett Ruffin. “With the Genie Z-45 SUB, which was purposely designed by Terex and Genie for substation work, it has specific features like the fiberglass jib sections, fiberglass platform and isolated upper controls built in to isolate the boom tip from the chassis ground.”
The Z-45 was designed in response to a need by FPL to increase safety with substation work. Traditionally, the practice of using all steel aerial work platforms required an extensive bonding process that needed to be done to isolate the boom tip from the chassis ground. Without the bonding process, or if it’s done incorrectly, the users are exposed to a serious shock risk due to the inherent differences in potential between the boom tip and chassis ground.
This project began picking up steam with a meeting at ICUEE back in October 2019. After that meeting, the Ring Power team scheduled a trip to Redmond, WA for a factory tour of Genie’s facility with FPL to go over the project timeline that Terex and Genie had put together. It also gave the team a chance to get feedback from FPL’s substation user group regarding the platform design for the unit.
“The success of this project is the result of a huge collaborative effort between all stakeholders involved,” Bennett said.
Despite the multitude of setbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Terex and Genie team was able to meet their major project timeline milestones and complete the project on time.
Ring Power demoed the Z-45 SUB at the Pompano branch on November 19 and was a huge success. Even though special precautions had to be taken with Terex/Genie video conferencing in to keep in-person attendance to a minimum to allow for social distancing, the team was able to effectively demonstrate the key features and benefits of the Z-45 SUB to both of FPL’s upper management and substation user group.
“We have received nothing but positive feedback from their team and they truly believe this product is an industry game changer for standard substation safe work practices moving forward,” Bennett said. “I think it’s safe to say the Genie Z-45 SUB met and exceeded their expectations.”
Upgrades Coming to Utility Equipment Digital Experience
Our customers now have access to our inventory of used equipment offerings online through our new used equipment website.
This online inventory portal allows customers the ability to search for the equipment they need easily and efficiently, as well as share equipment listings via email or social media.
The site which is built and hosted by Sandhills Global, the company behind Machinery Trader and Crane Trader, allows users to search for equipment by category, year, mileage, boom hours, manufacturer and location. The site’s analytics give us insight into who is searching for our equipment and provides leads for our sales team.
Ring Power’s heavy equipment, Cat Rental Store, crane and lift trucks divisions each use the Sandhills used equipment inventory platform.
Ring Power Utility Equipment is also in the process of redesigning and updating its primary website using the same Sandhills platform the Crane division recently rolled out.
In addition to maintaining a searchable used equipment inventory, the new website will allow us to display rental inventory and showcase new equipment available to our customers.
The site will also have a dedicated parts information page, details on shop and field service, specs on our equipment, a blog feature and abundant contact form pages.
The new site is slated to be completed in January.
Finally, the Utility Equipment parts department is in the beginning stages of building an online storefront for its tooling offerings.
The online storefront will give customers the ability to put together tooling packages customized to their needs and have them quoted by the parts department.
More details to come.
Service Technicians, parts employees and build shop technicians will soon begin seeing detailed instructions for applying our branding to new equipment with the rollout of the Utility Equipment division’s decal branding standard operating procedures.
The goal of these decal SOPs is to give detailed instructions on the exact decal size and placement for every piece of equipment we sell or rent.
The rollout of the decal SOP will happen in phases. The first phase will include the most common pieces such as the TC55, C4047, LT40, TM125 and Spiradrill hydraulic diggers. Each phase after will add new SOPs for less common equipment until all equipment in our fleet is covered.
The format of the SOP will be a one-page flyer with photos of the unit from each angle showing placement of the decals along with size of the decal needed in each location.
Phase one of the decal branding SOP is tentatively scheduled for the end of December 2020.
Ring Power Utility Equipment service technicians in Texas underwent a three-day training session in August covering aerial and digger derrick inspections as well as high-voltage dielectric testing.
Clyde Rogers, Ring Power technical trainer, led the courses at the Temple branch for both field and shop personnel.
Aerial work platforms and digger derricks both require an annual inspection per ANCI standards. The training on those units serve as a prerequisite for the dielectric testing training course.
Ring Power Utility is increasing its parts and service presence outside the state of Florida in a big way.
Following the opening of the Temple, TX branch, territory service manager Shawn Cardillo has been busy hiring service technicians in the Georgia, Tennessee and Carolinas.
“Larry (Nieman) and Joel (Ross) put together a plan to get to grow parts and service over the next five years,” Shawn said. “Since then it’s been full steam ahead with hiring.”
Cardillo and the service team hired technicians Will Lyne, Josh Crawford and Josh Moore, who each bring a wealth of Terex service knowledge to the team. Lyne will cover parts of Tennessee, Kentucky and the Western Carolinas. Crawford will cover parts of Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and some of the Carolinas while Moore will cover the Carolinas and parts of Virginia.
Shawn said the plan was to put a new field technician and shop technician out of the Concord, NC branch sometime in the first quarter as well.
“Josh (Crawford) and Will, coming from Terex, they’ve had a lot of high-level training,” Shawn said. Josh Moore, he’s strong as well, all these guys are a solid asset to the team. All of them have a great attitude.”
Shawn said another area that is helping parts and service improve outside of Florida is the use of vendor scorecards. He is still in the development stages of currently hopes to roll out in the first quarter of 2021.
“If we see shortcomings, we can work with the vendor to get them up to our standards,” Shawn said.
Ultimately, the goal with the scorecards is for our vendors to bring a higher level of service to our customers and our rental fleet-- doing it the Ring Power way.
The hiring push is to move away from using outside vendors for service work altogether in some of these areas. With some outside vendor service call times running between eight to ten days, this move will undoubtedly serve our customers better.
“We’re able to support our rental fleet and customers a lot better this way,” Shawn said. “My goal is to get them there within 24 to 48 hours. Boots on the ground!”
Update on RPUE Parts Department
I would like to start off by thanking every department for their support of the Utility Equipment Parts Department. We are one of the newest departments within the division and there is absolutely no chance we would be as successful as we have been without the encouragement and support of everyone within the division. I look forward to watching the department and division continue to flourish and grow, I am thankful to be a part of such a great team!
Despite the extreme conditions of working through a national pandemic in 2020, the Parts Department has seen exponential growth. The reason for this growth is not limited to one and can be attributed to everyone in the division. Some examples are the implementation of 2 new PSSR’s in territories outside of Florida, 1 in Texas and 1 in the Carolinas; Introduction of the Annual Maintenance Program (AMP); and garnering increased trust in our customers from the turn key solutions Ring Power is able to offer.
The Ring Power Tooling Program has made great strides in the second year of existence, making headway with existing customers and new accounts. Outfitting entire crews with tools prior to the trucks ship to the customer and giving customers a one stop shop for their tooling needs has been a great selling point. 2020 also saw the first time the tool trailer was used to support storm clean up during Hurricane Laura. New and existing customers really appreciated our storm relief efforts by giving them on site technician support and the ability to purchase tool needs on the spot.
I would like to finish off by thanking everyone for making the Utility Equipment Division one of the best divisions to work for within Ring Power and how exciting it is to watch us continue to grow!
